Winner of the Wandering Room Art Prize

A hotly contested award, The Wandering Room Art Prize inaugural exhibition, Closer, showcased ‘minature’ works under 8cms in size.  An honorable mentioned from judges Manu and Eli, whose taste was  beyond their years, went to Toby Laycock for his work, Batya and the Flower of Life, comprising old school animated drawings on a post- it pad. Under a blue marquee in New Farm park guests the anticipation for the big announcement built until auspicious judges Susan Ostling and Danielle Harigan, presented the People’s Choice Award to Yuri Zupancic for his work, Match. But it was the big ticket award of $250 and a profile in Independent Press 3: Critical Risk that went to Erin Dunne for her work, Cloud, made from magazine, pins and pine.

Whilst the winners let it all go straight to the head, David Nixon and Nick Drake continued in the true spirit of competition, posing for this photo below.

Thanks to the Wandering Room for putting this on, so much fun is only possible with the combination of art and picnic rugs!
